A Premier Quadra Island Property! |
|
|
|
Without question this is one of the most magnificent
and significant privately owned acreage estates on
Quadra Island and within the entire Discovery Island
region. Bold Point is a 49.75-acre peninsula located
on the Eastern shore of Quadra Island fronting the
waters of Hoskyn Channel to the East and Crescent
Channel to the West, with a due South orientation.
|
|
|
|
This stunning
property provides ultimate privacy in a splendid setting
that has a diverse range of beautiful natural features
as well as exceptional and valuable benefits that only
this location can provide. It also has unique history
as it was once one of the destinations for the historical
BC Steamships that travelled the Coast in the late 1800's
through to the early 1900's. |
|
The advantages of this location and the improvements
begin with good quality, gravel road access from Bold
Point Rd. Electric and telephone service comes in
from the road a portion of the way to the meadow above
ground and from there is routed underground to service
the main residence and guest cabin. As you enter along
the meandering driveway through the forest, you first
come to a significant 24 / 50 ft, 3 bay, over height
shop with a full concrete floor.
|
|
 |
This building
has power and water, is fully insulated and provides
more than adequate storage as well as housing the equipment
required for the domestic water service. Domestic water
comes from a 300 ft. drilled well next to the shop,
which produces an exceptional 10 gpm. |
| As one continues
down the driveway, it divides as you come to a fabulous
meadow and the garden. This is a small area in proportion
to the entire property that has been cleared and groomed
to provide a nice grassed area with an orchard as well
as a very extensive, magnificent flower and vegetable
garden. |
|
|
|
The garden
has been selected as one of ten Quadra gardens featured
in the 2008 garden tour. A substantial pond is located
at the South end of the meadow, which is not only an
attractive natural feature but also provides for a significant
water reservoir for back up irrigation as well as emergency
(fire) purposes. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
| The main
residence, located just East of the meadow is a sprawling
rancher providing about 2500 sq.ft., on one-level perched
atop a massive flat rock outcrop approximately 40 feet
above and 100 feet back from the ocean. |
|
 |
Situated
in a totally natural setting, this one-of-a-kind home
provides spacious, and comfortable, quality accommodations
with lots of natural light. All rooms face the ocean
and have access to a full width patio deck that stretches
across the entire front of the home, which measures
114 ft. From the expansive deck there are stairs down
to a lower deck, which incorporates a built-in hot tub.
Simply a wonderful place! |
|
|
|
| The centrepiece
to this home is the spacious great room. The unique
design incorporates large logs and framed construction.
The vaulted ceiling fans up and out towards the front
of the living area with an expansive 40 ft of windows
capturing the view. This centrepiece space combines
a generous living room with a cozy woodstove surrounded
by a stone hearth, an open kitchen functionally laid
out with a large centre island and sit down bar for
easy entertaining as well as a roomy dining area. |
|
 |
|
|
|
The North wing includes the master bedroom plus a second
bedroom both with their own full, private ensuite. The
South side includes a full bathroom, walk in pantry,
plus an additional room which functions as a private
study/third bedroom with built in bunk beds. At the
far end is a separate family, entertainment room. The
layout is functional and takes in all the benefits of
this great location and also provides for privacy for
families with children or large groups.
|
| The Guest
Cottage is located southwest of the meadow. There is
a groomed, grassed path significant enough for vehicle
access, which leads you to the Guest Cottage, perched
along the shoreline overlooking the protected moorage
and down Crescent Channel. |
|
|
|
This quaint,
well-built cottage provides a studio space with one
large, open living and sleeping area and a full private
bathroom. The full width deck leads you down to the
standing pier with an aluminum ramp to a 60 ft. dock.
|
| The moorage
location is exceptional. It is large enough to have
accommodated vessels up to 80 ft. and is totally protected
from all weather situations. There are full services
to the cottage and dock. |
|
|
|
The property
has a mixed and interesting topography ranging from
moss and fern covered rock outcrops and bluffs to meadows
and gently rolling forested areas as well as some dramatic
topography along the shoreline. All but a small portion
of the land is heavily forested with mature second growth
consisting of primarily Fir, Cedar, and Hemlock. The
shoreline stretches for almost a mile around the peninsula.
Along Hoskyn Channel there are the remains of the old
Steamship terminal and adjacent to this you can envision
the remains of the location where an old hotel used
to stand. |
| As you move
along the Eastern shore the range of features include
everything from low bank to high bank frontage, covered
with beautiful forest, which includes some significant
Arbutus trees. The views across Hoskyn Channel and towards
Read Island to the East are 180degrees. This is a very
serene and picturesque coastal setting. |
|
|
|
The Southern
tip is a bold granite outcrop and as you come around
to the West and enter Crescent Channel the setting and
situation couldn't be more distinctive. There are a
few little peninsulas and islets at high water that
form part of this property in addition to a picturesque
little bay that accommodates some of the best deepwater,
well-protected, moorage that any mariner could desire.
Only a stones throw away is Bold Island, which forms
Crescent Channel and is the backdrop to this picturesque,
intimate setting. |
| It is a challenge
to describe this property and location in such a way
for one to fully appreciate what a premier place this
really is. Not only is it a great jumping off point
to explore and enjoy the Discovery Islands region, it
is possible to catch fin fish and gather clams, oysters
and prawns literally at your doorstep. |
|
|
|
Killer whales
and other marine mammals pass through Hoskyn Channel,
in addition to an abundance of bald eagles, hawks, and
seabirds that are resident neighbours plus the many
deer that make this property their home. These are just
some of the daily sights and experiences one can enjoy. |
| Quadra Island
is the largest (approximately 34 km long) and most populated
(approximately 3,800 full-time residents) of the Discovery
Island group. It lies between Campbell River on Vancouver
Island and the mainland coast of British Columbia, off
Canada's west coast. Quadra's residents enjoy a rural
lifestyle surrounded by a clean unspoiled environment.
The breathtaking wilderness scenery, mild temperate
climate, and natural beauty make it a popular destination
for visitors from around the world. There are complete
services on the island as well as a wide variety of
accommodation and dining considerations from deluxe
resorts to rustic campsites. Unlimited adventure recreation
includes sport fishing, diving, hiking on over 200 km
of hiking trails, sea kayaking, powerboat and sailing.
There are many beaches, sheltered coves, protected channels
and islets along the intricate shoreline and the rich
waters fed by large tidal exchanges nourish abundant
marine life. |
